Wood Ranch's first hole is challenging. The hole gently bends right, with a narrow landing area, pinched by bunkers on the right and on the left. A demanding second shot is required with a precise mid- to long-iron shot to a long, skinny green that tilts hard back to front and left to right.

The second hole is a relatively short par 5, defended by a creek in the center of the fairway, creating a careful layup with your drive, and a two-tier green that demands a precise approach. Anything short results in a deep bunker and a long difficult chip.

Hole #3 is a mid-length par 3 protected by water on the left and bunkers front and left. A quality iron shot presents a birdie opportunity.

The fourth hole is a par 4 dogleg right protected by water. Longer hitters can ignore the hazard and have less than 100 yards in, while shorter hitters must carefully miss the hazard and approach with short- to mid-iron shots to a three-tier green.

The fifth hole is well-bunkered tee to green. Both tee shots and approach shots demand precision to avoid all bunkers. A small creek and pond sit about 300 yards from the tee and only come into play when tee shots find bunkers.

Hole #6 is a long par 5 into the prevailing wind. Tee shots must avoid water to the left and lay ups must avoid a well placed bunker on the right side of fairway. A short approach will provide a nice birdie opportunity to a two-tiered green.

The seventh hole is an uphill par 3 that plays one to two clubs longer than yardage. A large front bunker must be avoided to a long thin green that slopes very hard back to front.

Hole #8 is a risk/reward par 4 over water that can be driven by longer hitters, who must be aware of hazards on all sides. Layups from the tee create short iron over water to a small green.

The ninth hole is an uphill par 4. Playing from the gold tees presents one of the longest holes on the course and requires a very demanding drive. Second shots are slightly up hill to two-tiered green with false front grabbing short approaches that roll 15-25 yards back down the fairway.

The 10th hole is long par 4 with OB on the right and water on the left that wraps around to about 100 yards in front of an elevated green, demanding a quality approach with the proper distance. Poorly struck irons are rejected to the bottom of hole, resulting in precision chip shot to a green that is split into three different sections.

The 11th hole plays down a prevailing wind, helping both the tee shot and approach; many times a driver is not required. Tee shots much avoid water to the left and approach shots must not miss left, especially to a front pin location as the green runs very hard back to front and left to right.

Hole #12 can be the hardest hole on the golf course during the prevailing wind. A demanding tee shot must be hit solidly and avoid water on the left and a deep bunker on the right. A mid-iron shot to a large green is guarded by a deep bunker front and left.

The 13th hole is Wood Ranch's signature hole, guarded by water on all sides, plus a deep bunker over the green, which tilts hard back to front, creating a challenging par save. Deep pin placements require precision putting.

The 14th hole is the hardest easy hole in Ventura County. A severe uphill par 4 can play three to four clubs further, depending on the wind. A deep bunker in front of the green must be avoided.

The 15th, a par 5, wraps around a hill left to right. A carefully placed fairway bunker on the right creates an option for the player to try to fly it or go around it. Longer hitters can reach in two to a green that tilts severely back to front with three separate sections.

From a spectacular view of the City of Simi Valley, the 16th tee shot is elevated from the top to a par 4 dogleg right to left, protected by a long bunker on the left. A short approach shot is required to a two-tiered green whereby the back is below the front.

Hole #17 is the longest par 3 on the course, uphill to a large green guarded by bunkers in the front and left of green. Stray shots to the right and left are grabbed by hillsides covered in tall grass.

The home hole is the easiest on the course. A short, reachable downhill par 5 to a green split in middle by 12-foot rise. Approach shots are guarded by water on the left and grassy hillside on right. Hitting the proper level of green is key.
